Writing Journey

I’ve been writing for over ten years. And up until now no published work to show for it…YET.

I started with a fantasy story which I wrote in bits and pieces on weekends when I could squeeze it in. After a year of this, I had a solid first draft. I thought, why not quit my job and make full time writing a reality! So I did.

I took two years off the video game industry to focus on my writing. Originally I planned for only one year, but that was before I shared my book with someone who knew what they were doing.

I can’t tell you how terrifying it was to share my writing with a stranger. But her family was in the business, her brother is Jim Butcher who is one of my favorite fantasy authors. So I buckled up and listened to what she had to say.

My writing was good, actually really good…but my pacing was terrible, my backstory way too much (what we call info dump), and not nearly enough dialogue – not even close.

Shocked to realize I wasn’t going to be published any time soon, I had to reevaluate. I knew it meant I had to learn my craft. Go to school, get a critique group who could give me honest feedback.

Put the real work in. So I did.

Now I have a completed fantasy book. And also coming soon, a published poetry book.
Look for “Hope & Languish: Poems” out on Amazon in November before Thanksgiving!
